Confirmation
Confirmation marks an individual becoming an adult in the Church. At Baptism, a child's parents and Godparents made Baptismal Promises on their behalf. In Confirmation, the individual makes the promises on their own, declaring their faith.
Each year the Archbishop (or his designee) celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with the Confirmandee of Sacred Heart and St. Casimir. Preparation classes begin in the fall, and continue until spring when the sacrament is celebrated.
In addition to the Sacrament preparation classes, each person seeking the Sacrament will need to select a Confirmation name and a Confirmation sponsor.
Confirmation Name
The Confirmation name may be the name they received in Baptism. Typically, another Christian name is chosen, such as a canonized saint.
Confirmation Sponsor
A Confirmation Sponsor should be selected with care. A Sponsor must be:
-
At least 16 years old, who has already received Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
-
An active member of the Church
-
A role model in the faith.
