Charismatic Renewal Office at Savior of the World Pastoral Center serves the Catholic charismatic renewal in the Archdiocese through area and cluster prayer groups, cluster teachings, area-wide charismatic Masses, retreats, Masses of healing, and other special activities. The office publishes a bimonthly newsletter, "Heartbeat," to announce all activities of the charismatic renewal in the Archdiocese. The newsletter may be obtained by writing to:

Handicapped Programs: Physically and emotionally handicapped persons may participate in special activities planned by the Archdiocesan Religious Education and Community Handicapped (REACH) program. At the present time, these activities are limited in the Leavenworth Region because of the lack of a Program Director. If you wish to help out in this program, please call St. Joseph Church, 682-3953, to offer your services or for more information.

Human Development and Rural Life: For those members of our parishes who are engaged in farming, there is a special Archdiocesan office to service the specific needs of the rural life family.

Marriage Encounter is a program for married couples who wish to enrich their marriage. It is a closed weekend about 5 times a year at Savior of the World Pastoral Center. Everything is provided for your comfort. The weekend begins Friday evening and ends Sunday afternoon. There is a registration fee. For more information and to register, call the Christian Marriage and Family Life office at 721-1570.

Office of Hispanics: The Archdiocese provides discrete services for the Hispanics of our parishes. Please call El Centro of Kansas City, Kansas at 677-0100 if you wish to obtain more information about their programs and activities.

The Cursillo is for adult Catholics 21 and older who wish to grow in their faith and become more effective apostles in bringing the Kingdom of God to everyday life, at home, at work, and in the community. Members participate in a 3-day renewal weekend and then meet regularly afterward to share their apostolic efforts and successes.

The LEAVEN is the official paper of the Archdiocese. It is published weekly September through May, biweekly June through August. The LEAVEN is made available to every family registered in the parishes. Their address:

The Office for Black Catholics of the Archdiocese has its location at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2203 Parallel Parkway, KC, KS. Mrs. Regina Barger is the director. Hours of operation are Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Saturday hours are by appointment. For information regarding goals, activities, and plans, contact her at 321-2924.

The Institute for Religious Studies ( of Religious Studies/institute.asp) answers the call of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas to bring the Word of God and the teachings of the Catholic Church to the people. Programs have been developed in a wide range of categories, and classes are offered in various regions of the Archdiocese. The content of the courses fosters a spirit of learning which the participants take to their homes, schools, or places of business. The Institute invites all to embrace the opportunity of learning and forming a greater relationship with God.
